Hermann Steiner (1878-1963 ) wood carving of a man embracing two skulls and a book. Professor Hermann Steiner worked for a number of year in the town of Meran (Merano) in the Italian Tyrol where he was also known as ‘Ermanno’. He was awarded a gold medal at the St Louis exhibition in 1904. The carving is untitled but signed on the bottom right side. Made of fruit (pear ?) wood it is not made of one block but of several blocks glued together. The carving is of superior quality. 22cms by 12cms by 15 cms high. Circ 1920’s.
