Bronze Mare and Colt by P.J Mêne

Pierre Jules Mêne (1810-1879). was a French sculptor, one of the foremost members of the animaliers, group of French sculptors specializing in animal sculptures. Although without written documentation, the bronze was reputedly owned by Paul Broca (French physicist) and bought at the estate sale of his wife after her death in 1914  by the current owner’s grand father.
